Keeping Our Paths Open Since 2013

The beautiful landscapes of the Upper Calder and Ryburn Valleys are home to rich heritage and nature. We – the Community Rights of Way Service (CROWS) – maintain local paths to keep this countryside accessible

What We Do

Our team of volunteers works year-round to ensure the local countryside remains accessible to everyone.

  • Drainage & Vegetation: Clearing overgrown paths, digging drains, and cutting back encroaching brambles.
  • Infrastructure: Repairing and installing stiles, gates, bridges, and boardwalks.
  • Navigation: Installing finger posts and waymarks to keep you on the right track.
  • Major Projects: Restoring impassable routes like the Erringden Moor boardwalks and improving safety at Gaddings Dam.
How You Can Help
  • Report a Problem: Use our online report form to let us know about blocked paths, broken stiles, or fallen trees.
  • Make a Donation: As a charity, we rely on donations to purchase tools and materials. You can donate via JustGiving or through regular contributions.
  • Volunteer: We are a team of 28 volunteers from diverse backgrounds. While field recruitment is expected to reopen in Spring 2026, we currently welcome help with admin, finance, or technical support.
  • Follow us on facebook or via our blog.
